    Live-In House Manager for Private Estate in Barnet, Hertfordshire - Hertfordshire

    Location: Barnet, Hertfordshire
    Days/Hours: 5 days per week – some weekends as required
    Accommodation: Private accommodation provided
    Salary: Up to £55,000 gross per annum

    About the Estate

    This is a great opportunity to join a beautifully maintained historic estate in Hertfordshire, being part of a small and friendly team. The estate is elegant and well-organised, with a warm and professional atmosphere. You will be part of a close-knit team that includes a Butler, Housekeeper, and Houseman.

    The Role

    We’re looking for a professional, proactive, and discreet House Manager to support the daily operations of the main house and estate office. This is a hybrid role that blends hands-on house management and front of house service with administrative and personal assistant duties, ideal for someone with exceptional organisational skills and a can-do attitude. It would suit someone with experience in a hands-on House Manager role but who also has strong admin skills.

    You’ll ensure the household runs smoothly throughout the week and take a lead role in preparing for the principal’s visits. This includes managing the house diary, overseeing housekeeping standards, supporting corporate bookings and private entertaining, and working closely with the wider estate team.

    Key Responsibilities

    Household Management

    • Ensure the house is always staffed appropriately, including arranging rotas and covering holiday schedules
       
    • Maintain the highest standards of presentation and cleanliness throughout the property
       
    • Oversee household maintenance, liaising with the Estate Manager and contractors
       
    • Take responsibility for H&S compliance and house security
       
    • Order provisions and household supplies
       
    • Prepare monthly household accounts and keep accurate expenditure records
       
    • Provide occasional cooking or butler-style service during private dinners or when other staff are off-duty
       

    Administrative Support / PA Duties

    • Diary management and meeting scheduling for the principal and Estate Manager
       
    • Filing and record-keeping for household and estate documentation (invoices, MOTs, licences, etc.)
       
    • Managing reminders for MOTs, vehicle tracking, servicing, and contractor visits
       
    • Preparing and reviewing invoices and credit card reconciliations
       
    • First Aid and staff compliance scheduling
       
    • Assisting with correspondence, letters, and emails
       
    • Covering the estate office when required
       

    About You

    You’ll have proven experience in a similar House Manager, PA, or hybrid estate role, and be confident managing both people and logistics with ease. Highly organised and an excellent communicator, you’ll bring strong administrative skills and a calm, professional approach to your work.

    Discretion and reliability are essential, as is the ability to work independently and take initiative without close supervision. You’ll be comfortable managing budgets and household accounts, coordinating staff rotas, and ensuring the smooth running of the household day to day. Most importantly, you’ll be positive, personable, and enjoy being part of a small, close-knit team.
